The Peaceweavers' Wheel

Back in the late 1990's, we (Brynda & Slim) were asked to create a music program to celebrate a Gallery Show titled. "The Peaceweaver's Dream".  It was in Shepherdstown, WV and was planned to coincide with the Peace Talks held at Shepherd College.  After the Gallery Showing and Peace Talks were over, we were asked by the Arts Council to expand the program so that it could be performed at Schools in West Virginia as a "Celebration of the Unanimous Declaration of the United Nations for a decade for the Culture of Peace & Non-Violence, 2000-2010 ".

The program we created included an opening Concert of "Songs & Stories of Peace from Around the World", workshops where each student helped weave a "Peaceweavers' Wheel" on a 4 to 6 foot, circular loom, songwriting workshops, Peace Dance workshops, and Recycled Instruments workshops.  The final student performance included a dedication of the Peaceweavers' Wheel that was then donated to the school for display.  Following the "Peaceweavers' Pledge", there was a Hoedown/Fiesta that included a student "Jugband" with their "Recycled Instruments" and lots of dancing!

The program was picked up by Maryland State Arts Council and performed in School Concerts & Residency Programs throughout MD and in several other States.  We were even asked to perform and create a Peaceweavers' Wheel at the International Child Arts Festival in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.!
